The Good Sorts at Good Sorts is a series that brings our people out from behind the scenes and into the spotlight.
Meet Jared Brown, our newest team member! Originally from Brandon, MB, Jared fell in love with Kelowna’s outdoor lifestyle and vibrant community in 2019. With a background in finance and the wedding industry, he brings a diverse skill set to Good Sorts. We sat down with Jared to learn more about his story.
Can you share a bit about your hometown and the memories you have growing up there?
My hometown is Brandon, MB. I was born and raised there before moving to Kelowna in 2019. I loved growing up in the prairies and my favourite parts of growing up there were playing sports, playing outdoor hockey with friends after school, heading up to the lake, and the unlimited number of bonfires we had!
What led you to make Kelowna your home, and how has it influenced you?
I took a trip to Victoria to visit some friends attending school there. It was my first time flying and I could not believe the mountains and the scenery! I fell in love with BC and knew that I would be moving there very soon. When I was debating on what college to go to, Okanagan College called my name. I took a ski trip out to Apex Mountain and stayed in Kelowna. I ended up falling in love with it! I love to snowboard, golf, hike, and soak up the sun so it was an easy choice to make Kelowna my home. My love for good beer and wine helped influence me as well!
Before joining the Good Sorts team, what kind of work or activities kept you busy?
Before Good Sorts, I had a bit of a different background. I worked in the restaurant industry while I was obtaining a bachelor’s in finance at Okanagan College. After completing school, I went on to join the wedding industry by opening my own staffing and rental company. After a few years of that, I decided it was time for a change, and when the opportunity at Good Sorts came up, I was eager to apply!
In your free time, what are some of your favourite hobbies or pastimes?
I love to stay busy. In my free time, you can find me at the gym, beach, ski hill or golf course. I have played guitar my whole life so you can also find me strumming and singing along to my favourite songs! I love to meet up with friends to enjoy the breweries and wineries in town, and if I’m not doing any of that you will see me biking around town.
