Meet Alex

The Good Sorts at Good Sorts is a series that brings our people out from behind the scenes and into the spotlight.

Meet Alex Nagy, our new Operations Coordinator and one of the newest members of the Good Sorts crew! Born in Kelowna but raised in small-town Alberta, Alex brings a blend of prairie roots, operations know-how, and a passion for people to the team. We caught up with Alex to learn more about her journey.

Where did you grow up, and what’s one thing you miss (or don’t!) about it?

I was born in Kelowna, but I grew up in Three Hills, AB. It’s a town with just under 5,000 people, so Kelowna feels like the big city to me! If someone asked me, “Do you ever miss the prairies?” I’d tell them I definitely miss the sunsets, but I definitely do not miss all the tornado warnings in the summertime!

What brought you to Kelowna, and how are you finding life here?

My family and I used to spend a lot of summers out here. The lakes and mountains always felt like a second home to me, so I knew I wanted to move out here eventually. I had the privilege to pursue my Bachelor’s degree at UBCO, and have been lucky to call Kelowna my new home ever since! I love the breweries and the people I’ve met out here (not necessarily in that order, haha!). I wouldn’t change a thing about life out here – except maybe the bridge traffic.

Before joining Good Sorts, what kind of work or experiences shaped your path?

My work history has been pretty diverse. I have multiple years of experience in various customer service gigs – a coffee shop here, a record store there. I worked several years as an administrative assistant for an agricultural dealership back in Alberta, which kickstarted my love for operations (and my love for spreadsheets!). Last year, I was a record store manager and an administrative assistant for an environmental hazardous materials company. Now I’m super excited to be part of the crew at Good Sorts — it’s awesome to be doing work I care about with such a great bunch of people.

When you’re off the clock, what activities or hobbies do you enjoy most?

I love watching movies! My partner and I organize watch parties with our friends every week, and it’s been a lot of fun writing and reading Letterboxd reviews afterwards (IYKYK). I’m also an avid collector of records and CDs, and I really enjoy going to local shows throughout the Okanagan whenever I can.

What’s your favourite local spot to eat, unwind, or spend time with friends?

Red Bird is a new favourite of mine! Their BBQ Pulled Pork pizza is my ride-or-die comfort meal.

What’s your favourite drink? (Could be a morning coffee, evening cocktail, or anything in between!)

David Rio’s Tiger Spice Chai! If you try it, thank me later. 😉
